Kolkata Knight Riders
is back on the track after a defeat against Mumbai Indians. In the second
match of their campaign, KKR beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets. This is the
first of the season where a team won the game while chasing.
SRH skipper David Warner
choose the bat first after winning the toss. The pitch was batting friendly and
over 160 runs were expected from a team consisting of David Warner, Jhonny
Bairstow, Manish Pandey. But bowling line-up of Kolkata restricted their score.
After 20 overs SRH was 142/4.
The early wicket of
Bairstow (5) put pressure on SRH. Another opener Warner played an inning of 36
runs where Manish Pandey scored 51. Wriddhiman Saha impressed with the bat,
scored 30. It was expected that SRH middle order will come out with fire up
having wickets in hand but failed to do so because of the outstanding
performance of KKR bowlers. They might get fewer wickets but restricted score
on the board. Pat Cummins, Varun Chakravarthy, and Andre Russel got one
wicket each.
In response to SRH,
KKR won the match having 2 overs and 7 wickets in hand. Youngster Shubman Gill
played an unbeaten knock. He scored 70* runs with the help of 5 fours and
2 sixes. Skipper Dinesh Kartik (0) and Sunil Narine (0) failed to score a
single run but that did not matter. Along with Gill, England skipper Eion
Morgan scored an unbeaten 42.
Rashid Khan, Khaleel
Ahmed, and T Natarajan took one wicket each for SRH. It’s
mounting pressure for David Warner lead team after losing two
consecutive matches at the beginning of the tournament.
