East Bengal opener Sreevats Goswami who became the first player to
score a century in the Bengal T20 Challenger believes that the wicket being
tough cannot be an excuse for not fighting it out and getting the job done.
"No matter what giving your best is all that matters,"
said a tired and happy Sreevats after the tie late last night.
"The wicket's been playing differently under the sun and the
lights. It's a dodgy wicket but we have to adapt. If we think the wicket is not
good for the batsman then we might as well get out in the dressing room, cause
we don't have many matches left. You have to come out and give it your best. If
it comes out well then good otherwise there's always a next match," the
experienced wicket-keeper-batsman told CAB Media.
The previous match at the same venue was a low scoring one with
winning team Tapan Memorial setting a target of 114 runs and Kalighat bundling
out for just 91 runs but Sreevats flourished with the bat in the next smashing
12 boundaries and 2 sixes.
The seasoned campaigner for Bengal team team roared back to form
with an unbeaten 100 off just 71 balls, which is not only the highest
individual score of the tournament but also helped his team post 175/6, the
meet's highest total so far.
East Bengal went on to register a thumping 54-run victory in the
match and when asked about if there was any special plan was in place during
the fantastic knock he replied: "I wasn't thinking anything, I went with a
clear mind to bat. I didn't make any special plans. In the previous match the
ball was spinning a lot, I didn't know how the wicket wicket will turn out to
be."
