Mohun Bagan became the second team to enter Bengal T20 Challenge
finals beating Town Club by 9 wickets thanks to their spinners and Vivek
Singh's blistering unbeaten half-century today at Eden Gardens.
Mohun Bagan skipper Anustup Majumder said: "We have been
playing really good cricket for last 4-5 matches. Vivek getting back in form,
addition of Rajkumar have been two x-factors for us. We will give our best and
try to continue this momentum tomorrow in the final."
Electing to bat first Town Club could only amass 124/9 as Bagan's
spinners made their life miserable out there while experienced campaigner
Gitimoy Basu made a fighting 41 off 40 balls.
Writtick Chatterjee, Sunil Kr Dalal and Rajkumar Pal picked up 2
wickets apiece and pacer Sayan Ghosh bagged 2 for 18.
While chasing Bagan started off in style with Vivek and Ankur Pal
(21) stitching a 61-run opening partnership and the left-handed batter went on
to make unbeaten 76 off 53 balls.
Vivek who finished the match in style with a boundary off Md Kaif
said: "Our bowlers bowled really well, got wickets early and we didn't let
them make big partnerships. While chasing I knew a good start will make the
match easy for the next batters and when I settled I wanted to finish the
match."
Town bowling attack looked toothless in front of Bagan batters as
they could only take 1 wicket in the second semifinal match and the maidan
giants finished on 127/1 to win the game with 3 overs left to play.
